Slug Generator
Convert text to URL-friendly slugs
About Slug Generator
Converts a title or phrase into a lowercase, hyphen-separated slug as you type, ready to copy into a URL path such as /blog/my-first-post. The rules are fixed, with no options: only the letters a to z, digits and hyphens survive, and accented letters are reduced to their base letter. Handy for blog posts, product pages, anchors and file names.

Frequently asked questions
What is a URL slug?
▾
A URL-friendly version of a title or name, using only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. For example, 'Hello World!' becomes 'hello-world'. Slugs appear in URLs like /blog/hello-world.
How are accented characters handled?
▾
Diacritics are stripped through Unicode normalization, so é becomes e, ñ becomes n and ü becomes u. Letters with no plain ASCII base, such as ß, ø, æ or ł, are dropped instead of transliterated, and text in non-Latin scripts like Cyrillic or Chinese produces an empty slug.
What happens to punctuation, underscores and emoji?
▾
They are deleted, not replaced: only spaces and existing hyphens become separators. For example, 'Node.js_v2 Guide' becomes 'nodejsv2-guide', so add spaces where you want hyphens. Repeated hyphens are collapsed, and leading or trailing ones are trimmed.
Can I change the separator or limit the length?
▾
No. The output is always lowercase with hyphens, and the whole input is converted without a length limit. Keep slugs short and put the most important keywords first, since long URLs are harder to read and share.
